Angola’s Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, María Cándida Pereira Teizeira has met with the Caribbean country’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Eng. Antonio Almonte, to discuss the possibility of collaborating in oil and gas development.
According to the Ministry, Minister Eng. Almonte and Ambassador Teizeira discussed how Angola can leverage its position as sub-Saharan Africa’s largest oil producer, as well as its vast experience in mining, to improve production and refining capabilities in the Dominican Republic, a country highly dependent on fuel imports.
Ambassador Teizeira highlighted that the southern African country’s resources could be of value to the Dominican Republic and that cooperation between the two countries could serve to alleviate the Caribbean nation’s reliance on imports, while bringing much needed income to Angola’s energy industry.
Meanwhile, Minister Eng. Almonte welcomed the diplomatic representative’s interest in strengthening ties between the two countries, and for showing interest in collaborating in the areas of energy, hydrocarbons, and mining, noting Angola’s immense experience in mining diamonds, cobalt, manganese, and other minerals essential to modern industries.
The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Energy and Mines headquarters in the Dominican Republic’s capital city of Santo Domingo, featured a ministerial delegation that included Vice Minister of Energy for the Dominican Republic, Rafael Gómez, and Ministerial Executives, Nisael Dirocié, Helen Pérez, and Carolina Sánchez. Meanwhile, Ambassador Teizeira was accompanied by the First Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs, Helio Dos Santos, as well as a delegation that included press and military attachés.
