Entreprise Générale du Cobalt (EGC) and Trafigura have agreed on the first delivery of copper and cobalt to international markets via the Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR), marking a decisive step in the development of a faster, more efficient, and more transparent supply chain for minerals originating from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to a press release, this operation underscores the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor in transporting mineral resources from the DRC to customers worldwide.
“The Lobito Atlantic Railway stretches approximately 1,300 kilometers, linking the deep-water port of Lobito, on Angola’s Atlantic coast, to the border with the DRC at Luau, with an additional connection of around 450 kilometers to Kolwezi, in the heart of the Congolese Copperbelt,” the statement explains.
