Vodacom slashes data rates by up to 88% for international travelers

As the vaccination rollout continues, with 24,4% fully vaccinated South Africans as at the end of November, Vodacom says it hopes that customers will once again get to enjoy leisure travel soon.

“We are on a mission to give value to our customers at every touchpoint of our business. We have slashed our data roaming prices by up to 88%, another way we strive to fulfil our mission. As a customer-led organisation, we want to ensure that South Africans enjoy the holiday travels worry-free,” says Jorge Mendes, Chief Officer of Consumer Business at Vodacom SA.

Jorge added: “With our discounted rates, Vodacom customers can now securely and conveniently access their mobile banking application, connect with loved ones, and share their travel moments as and when they happen, and much more, without worrying about roaming charges.”

Vodacom customers who will be visiting neighbouring countries such as Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland and Botswana can now confidently keep their SA mobile numbers connected for only R0.49c/Megabyte (MB), a rate that is equivalent to the current out-of-bundle rate that Vodacom customers pay in South Africa.

“We are constantly evaluating opportunities that give real value, in living our purpose of connecting everyone for a better future. This is in line with our further together tagline, where the emphasis is on connecting everyone to the digital economy,” added Mendes.”

For customers who are planning to travel abroad, once the travel restrictions are lifted, they can rest assured that the top travelling spots such as Seychelles, Australia, France, and the United Kingdom will also benefit from the price adjustments.

With effect from 1 December 2021 until 28 of February 2022,  all postpaid customers can enjoy promotional offers of R85 for a 1GB data bundle or R299 for a 5GB data bundle both valid for 30 days, and voice calls for as little as R2.50 per minute when roaming in 80 countries.  The 1GB promotional offer compares to the local SA data rate.
