Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool? PSG star wants to leave in January
Kylian Mbappe sensationally wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January, despite signing a lucrative new contract in the summer.
That’s according to Spanish outlet, Marca.
They claim the relationship between Mbappe and PSG is “completely broken” and there is “no turning back.”
Mbappe feels PSG have “betrayed” him.
After the club’s 0-0 draw with Reims last weekend, the French striker appeared to take a dig at the manager, Christophe Galtier’s tactics.
‘Mbappe isn’t going to Real Madrid’
But if you thought that a move to Real Madrid – who were heavily linked with the Frenchman – last summer is a formality then you’re very much mistaken.
That’s because the report suggests that PSG have an ‘anywhere but Real Madrid’ mentality when it comes to Mbappe.
PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi has an unsavoury relationship with Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez which wasn’t helped by the saga between the two clubs over Mbappe in the summer. They also had very contrasting views regarding the European Super League.
Who will Mbappe sign for?
So, if not Real Madrid then who?
Well, according to Marca, the only club PSG would “open the doors for” is Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s side did attempt to sign Mbappe last summer but couldn’t compete with the financial strength of Real Madrid and PSG.
In May, Klopp himself admitted he was interested by saying: “So, about Kylian Mbappe…of course we are interested in Kylian Mbappe, we are not blind!
“Actually, I have nothing to say about [reported contact] but between Kylian and Liverpool, it’s all set, it’s all fine. We of course like him and if you don’t like him, you have to question yourself.
“But we are not, we cannot be part of these battles. There must be other clubs involved and that is fine. He is a great player.”
Will Liverpool sign Mbappe?
It still seems incredibly unlikely that Liverpool would fund a deal to sign Mbappe. Having signed a mega new deal in the summer, 23-year-old would command a transfer fee far exceeding £100 million. Then when you consider him wages, it becomes more and more unrealistic the Merseyside club would break their budget for Mbappe.
Having recently rewarded Mohamed Salah with a massive new contract, Liverpool won’t have too much wiggle room in their wage structure to offer Mbappe a similar salary.
One thing is for sure, Klopp is a big Mbappe fan and would love to sign the former Monaco man.
But will the owners fund what could potentially be the most expensive transfer in football history? We very much doubt it.
