An earthquake recorded this Wednesday in the Angolan provinces of Bié, Benguela, Huíla, and Huambo, with its epicenter in the city of Cuito, caused panic among the populace, with no human or material damages reported.
Residents interviewed by the National Radio of Angola (RNA) in the aforementioned provinces described moments of panic due to the earthquake that affected several buildings, some of which were evacuated by firefighters.
The seismic shock, with its epicenter in the city of Cuito, Bié province, was also felt in the provinces of Benguela, in the municipalities of Caconda, Caluquembe, and Lubango, Huíla province, and in Huambo province.
To RNA, local authorities and citizens expressed concern about the occurrence, which, as described, did not cause human or material damages.
The Angolan National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (Inamet) confirms, in a note released this Wednesday, the occurrence of the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale (whose maximum is 9) at 08:42 (same time in Lisbon) in Bié province.
