Angola’s Unitel and Huawei partner for Green Energy solutions at mobile sites
Angolan mobile phone company, Unitel is collaborating with Chinese technology giant Huawei for the deployment and integration of green energy solutions at select mobile sites.
Unitel has been in the process of exploring technical and business solutions to advance plans for sustainable development, especially regarding low-carbon energy. Working with Huawei allows the Angolan mobile company to establish green networks with minimal operational expenditure (OPEX) which will also consequently drive Angola’s socioeconomic development.
Huawei has committed to helping partners expand modernized, green energy solutions. Notably, through the company’s “Green site, Green network and Green operation” solution – a green network solution to optimize energy efficiency for carriers -, the Chinese operator aims to increase network range while decreasing energy consumption per bit.
Unitel has been collaborating with Huawei since 2019 to reduce its OPEX and improve energy modernization. The new partnership will enable both companies to integrate hybrid power solutions to ensure the transition away from diesel-fired generators, reducing carbon emissions while increasing low-carbon technology mobilization. Hybrid solutions will decrease operator time regarding diesel generators by up to 75% and OPEX by 40%.
Director of Unitel’s Maintenance Department, Jose Mavungo commented that these solutions deployed by Huawei are closely in line with Unitel’s energy strategy. Both mobile technology companies’ welcome further cooperation and remain dedicated to maximizing solutions for the green, low-carbon and sustainable mobile technology space.
